So I finally got all of Sam's birthday pictures posted...better late than never.
Sam had a great birthday-- he knew the day was all about him when Thomas, Penny, and I came in to sing him Happy Birthday (Daddy was at work already). On Thomas' 5th birthday we put all his presents in a laundry basket so we could just drag them in to him. That must have stuck in his brain because he did the same thing for Sam. He collected toys that he was ready to pass on (awww, how sweet) and covered them up to surprise his little brother. So he opened up all his presents and loved it. There must be something magical about turning one, because he really did know that day was his. We sang him Happy Birthday throughout the day and he kept holding up his index finger to show that he was 'one year old'.
After I took a million pictures of him, and after Daddy got home, we had a little birthday gathering. Aunt Shelly, Abby, Nathan and Evan (the twins' birthday was 3 days after Sam's) were in Arizona, but Uncle Nathan came over for cake, ice cream, and more singing. Our neighbors Chris, Brandie, Riley, and Sydney also came over to join the fun.
Sam loved his crocodile cake. It was chocolate cake with butter pecan ice cream, but I took a little too long to frost and decorate the pint-sized croc, so the ice cream melted a bit. Oh well, it created a cozy swamp for him. Sam had only a smidgen of hesitance to let loose and dig in.
So now my baby is one year old. Where did that year go?...crazy. Life is hectic, but we sure are glad for each of our sweet kids and the joy they bring into our lives. Penny was only 8 months old when I got pregnant with Sam. Things haven't been easy, but I wouldn't trade my kids for the world. Happy birthday to my Sam.
