Guess and Answer

I thought the kids of my blog buddies would get a kick out of this. Guess what it is? I'm sure you'll be able to guess what it is, but guess how it got there?

I was going to explain what it is and how it got there, but I thought it'd be funner to see some guesses. I'll give you a couple of days to think it over.

By the way... it's kind of gross, if you couldn't already tell.

Okay-- here's the answer. This is another one of those times when I was absolutely kicking myself for not having my camera. The other morning I drove Thomas to school and thought maybe a rag or plastic bag was stuck on the telephone wires (or whatever wires they were). But when I looked closer it was this unfortunate bat who touched both wires at the same time. So there you go: it's an electrocuted bat. By the time I had a camera it had fallen down by the fence. That would have been the coolest-- and yes, grossest picture. Dangit.

Looks like a bat to me. The first thing I saw was the creepy little wing with claw hanging. Eew.

Yep, my guess is a bat too. But is there some other sort of animal on it too? Having lunch maybe? Who knows!

Well, what we have here is the Pteropus rodricensis, or fruit bat also commonly referred to as the "flying fox". Sorry, everyone else got the right answer already -I didn't have anything to add. I can't even venture a guess as to why he his dangling painfully from the fence. It's making me sad...*sniff*...Okay, tell us, tell us!

Allison, you really need to either tell us what this thing really is, or post something else so i don't have to keep looking at it. It's starting to gross me out.

My guess is the bat was trying to mate with that red furry thing.... hmm, some Australian variety of a gopher or prairie dog - and the bat's toenail got caught on the fence. When you stumbled upon him he got embarrassed and hid his face under his wing, playing dead until you left. Kim reads too much and I watch too much TV.
