Kangaroos Galore

This is my favorite part of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary: the kangaroo field. It is the coolest thing to go right up to kangaroos and pet them, or to have them hop up to you to see if you have anything to eat.

I couldn't believe the kids could even reach into the mummy's pouch and pet the joey inside! I got pictures with Thomas and Penny doing that. There's one picture where the joey's legs were sticking out of the pouch instead of the head.

I love this picture! It was so sweet to see Thomas 'hugging' the kangaroo.

I was surprised this kangaroo was still nursing-- he looked pretty big.

I couldn't even tell that there was a joey in this pouch until it was wiggling around and moving the mom's tummy. Then it opened up a bit and you could see the little baby inside.

Mummy and Joey eat some grass.

The feeding line.

Typical Sam. The first picture he's shoving a stick into a poor kangaroo's face. Then he's sitting on the bench with Jason, and he has to get wiped off after playing with kangaroo poop. That's my Sam.

I love the picture with Jason by the drinking kangaroos (below and to the right). It looks like he's talking to an old mate.

There is something disturbing about a bird this big. And yes, that's a pigeon next to emu poop. It's a good thing that emu's don't fly, because that would be a big mark on the windshield.

Thomas was in heaven. His favorite was the big red kangaroo (can you tell?). He sat with that one for quite a while. He would rub it while it slept, and sometimes it would start to scratch itself, so Thomas would help him out. Then the kangaroo would relax again and cover it's eyes. It was the funniest thing to see. Thomas was so interested in him. He tried to hold the kangaroos 'hand' and he couldn't believe how heavy it's tail was.

It was funny watching the way Penny acted with the kangaroos. At first it was like she was holding back-- but near the end she really let loose. My favorite is where it looks like she was yelling at the kangaroo. She wasn't, she was so excited that she was just being silly.

I didn't get that many pictures of Sam at all-- he was all over the place. It seems like the whole time we were there I was telling him to stop whatever he was doing. In this picture he's trying to feed the kangaroo some dirt.

Who can spot Jason in this crowd?

I found this series of pictures to be hilarious. There's Thomas-- having his own little moment with this kangaroo. Along comes Sam. Thomas pushes Sam away. Sam runs away in a hissy. Classic.

Yes, this is a picture of me taking a picture of a guy's buttcrack.(watch for my upcoming buttcrack post)
